Volumetric weight, explained in two minutes
30 May 2026 3 min read
Ever wondered why a big box of light clothes costs more to ship than a small heavy one? That's volumetric weight at work.
Airlines charge for the space a parcel occupies, not just its weight. Volumetric weight is calculated as length × width × height (in cm) ÷ 5000. You pay whichever is higher: actual or volumetric.
The practical tip: use the smallest box that safely fits your items, and avoid oversized packaging. Our calculator shows volumetric weight live as you type dimensions, so you always know before you book.
