How to send medicines abroad from India (without the stress)

28 June 2026 6 min read

Sending medicines to a parent or child living abroad is one of the most common — and most anxious — shipments we handle. The good news: with the right paperwork, it's straightforward.

Start with a valid doctor's prescription and the pharmacy invoice. Most countries allow personal quantities of prescription medicine when these accompany the parcel. Controlled substances are the exception and are best avoided entirely.

Packaging matters more than people expect. Tablets and liquids should be cushioned and sealed to survive pressure changes in the cargo hold. At SETU we pack medicines in tamper-evident, temperature-aware materials as standard.

Finally, rules vary by destination. Australia and the Gulf, for instance, are stricter than the USA or UK. Before we pick up, we check your exact items against your destination country — so nothing gets held at customs.
